The Generate with AI block lets you describe a custom element in plain language and have Heyflow build it for you — directly inside your flow editor. Instead of starting from a blank canvas, you give the AI a prompt and it produces a ready-to-use element already styled to match your flow's design.

This block is ideal when you need something specific that isn't covered by a standard building block, like a testimonial slider, a countdown timer, or a custom visual component. The generated element inherits your flow's existing design, so it fits in without extra styling work.

In this article, you'll learn how to add the block, write effective prompts, and adjust the result to fit your needs.

Create Your Prompt

Start by adding the Generate with AI - Block to your funnel:

  1. Open your flow in the editor.

  2. Click the "+" button to open the block panel.

  3. Search for "Generate with AI" and click the block to add it to your flow.

Once the block is added, you'll see example prompts to get you started. You can select one of these directly, or write your own in the prompt field.

💡 Examples include prompts like "Build a testimonial slider" or "Add a countdown timer" — use these as a starting point if you're not sure what to write.

When writing your own prompt, describe what the element should do or display — not how it should be built. The more specific you are, the better the result:

  • Build a testimonial slider with three quotes and star ratings

  • Add a countdown timer that ends at midnight

  • Create a two-column comparison table for two pricing plans

Once you're happy with your prompt, confirm it to generate the element.

❗️There is a 1,000-character limit for each prompt when creating drafts.

❗Each generation replaces the previous result — there is no history or undo. If you're happy with an output, don't regenerate unless you intend to replace it.

💡 If the first result isn't quite right, refine your prompt and regenerate. Small wording changes can meaningfully change the output.

Block Content Updates

After the element has been generated, you can adjust it from the "Content" tab in the right-hand panel or make edits directly to the HTML code.

Block Design

Generated elements are styled automatically to match your flow's active theme at the time of generation, so the output fits in without extra styling work.

❗ If you update your flow's theme after generating, the element won't update automatically. Regenerate the block after a major theme change to resync the styles.

Here are a few prompts to give you an idea of what the Generate with AI block can produce:

  • Testimonial slider — "Build a testimonial slider with three customer quotes and five-star ratings"

  • Countdown timer — "Add a countdown timer that counts down 10 minutes"

  • Comparison table — "Create a two-column table comparing a free plan and a paid plan"

  • Progress indicator — "Show a three-step progress bar with labels for each step"

  • Trust badges — "Add a row of four trust icons with short labels underneath each one"

💡 Think of each prompt as a creative brief for a designer — the more context and detail you provide (such as the number of items, layout, style, and content), the more accurately the output will match your vision. Keep in mind that each prompt has a 1000-character limit, so aim to be clear, specific, and concise.
